Welcome to Boquete and the Chiriquí Province — home to the Valle Escondido Resort, Golf, and Spa. Boquete is located in the province of Chiriquí, which is an Indian word meaning “Valley of the Moon.” The noble Bugle Indians are the most populace of Panama’s seven indigenous peoples and they can be seen walking the winding mountain roads or shopping in the village in their original dress.

The Chiriquí Province marked its 159th anniversary in 2008, and Boquete celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2011. The District of Boquete covers over 484 kilometers (300 miles) and has approximately 20,000 residents, with more than 1,000 of those being foreign residents from around the world.

The valley is situated on the eastern side of the volcano (extinct for over 500 years) known as Volcano Baru (one of 2 extinct volcanoes in Panama), which became a National Park in June of 1976 and encompasses a surface area of 14,322.5 hectares (over 35,000 acres), rising to a height of over 12,000 feet above sea level. Rainfall is abundant at the higher elevations of Baru's 6 life zone areas.

This unique eco-area provides an incredible experience for those who want explore the area’s recreation, flora, fauna, birds, animals, and water features.

There are over 250 bird species found in the park boundaries, as well as animals such as the:

  • Jaguar
  • Tapir
  • Puma
  • Deer
  • Coati
  • Armadillo
  • Rabbit
  • Sloths (both 2 and 3 toed)
  • Monkeys of various types

This area is the southernmost boundary of the sacred Quetzal bird, revered by civilizations from Mexico to western Panama throughout time.

The major industries of Boquete are agriculture, ecotourism, and coffee. In recent years, Boquete has become world-famous for producing some of the finest Estate Coffees in the world.

Our hidden valley is just a ten-minute walk from the rural coffee growing community of Boquete, Panama. In town you will find shopping and dining in the dozen or more restaurants catering to the locals and tourist alike.

We are also only 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean where you will find some of the best sport fishing in the entire world.

Since 2002, the world's retirement population has been discovering Boquete as a retirement haven with low cost of living, perfect weather and beautiful people. As a result, unemployment here is low and quality of life is high.

For cultural pursuits, Boquete has its own community theater, the Boquete Community Players and there is also the Boquete Jazz Festival, the Chiriquí Art Expo, and a number of annual festivals and parades.
